Cost-effective CAD from ZWSOFT made possible by the ODA
Powerful performance at an affordable price
Demanding workloads require powerful drafting tools with user-friendly interfaces and file sharing properties that enable speed and productivity. However, such applications frequently carried a high price tag and for many companies that meant limited access to the best tools.
All that changed in 2002 when ZWSOFT launched its flagship product ZWCAD in China. Released overseas in 2004 this revolutionary CAD platform quickly earned a reputation for delivering high performance at a reasonable price. Now the leading CAD brand in China and the choice of 180,000 users in 80 countries, ZWCAD 2011 is available in 15 languages. Major clients include Siemens, Sony Ericsson, Panasonic, Carrefour and Saint-Gobain. ODA technology has underpinned this success.
ZWSOFT, the CAD/CAM software specialist
Founded in 1998 in Guangzhou, ZWSOFT has development facilities across China and an office in the USA. The company's vision is to be the world’s leading CAD/CAM software provider. ZWSOFT’s 400 employees are strengthened by an international network of skilled partners, distributors, and resellers to fulfill this vision by providing trusted CAD/CAM solutions for architecture, engineering, construction, mechanical and electrical design and manufacturing.
Enabling productivity and profitability
ZWCAD’s powerful drafting tools and flexible customization features enable users to realize their ideas quickly and easily. “Our customers tell us that it provides the most cost-effective solution for the entire workflow,” comments Joh Li, CTO. “Communication and cooperation are boosted because ZWCAD is fully compatible with mainstream CAD software and operating systems and therefore ensures seamless file sharing.”
ZWCAD can open, edit, and save any existing .dwg file generated by AutoCAD® from version 2.5 to 2011 without conversion or data loss. ZWCAD 2011 opens and saves drawings in .dwg, .dxf, .dwf and .dwt formats. In addition, it can export drawings in various raster and vector formats. It also includes several Application Programming Interfaces that allow users to develop their own applications. Prospective users can explore ZWCAD 2011 with a fully functioning version on a free 30-day trial.
According to Joh Li, customers report that ZWCAD enables them to work faster. “Feedback shows that designers and engineers find it easy to learn because of the friendly user interface and familiar drafting tools and commands. This means that they can be productive immediately. They get full functionality at an affordable price and this makes a significant contribution to their profitability.”
ZWSOFT began using library files from the ODA in 2001 when it was developing ZWCAD. Access to ODA files meant that the developers of ZWCAD were free to focus on creating a fully functional 2D CAD application without having to worry about compatibility with native .dwg files. “It was easier to complete the development of ZWCAD with ODA’s library of information,” says Joh Li.
A second outstanding product
In 2007 the company became a founding member of the ODA and this gave it direct access to source files. In September 2010 ZWSOFT released ZW3DTM, the second product built with ODA software. An advanced, integrated CAD/CAM solution built on the VX CAD/CAMTM platform, ZW3D extends enterprise-level mechanical design and engineering capabilities to the desktop at a fraction of the cost for comparable systems. It meets the needs of a broad base of users in 2D/3D design industries who are looking for an application they can deploy immediately, at a price they can afford.
Easy to learn and use, it simplifies the design process from concept to completion.
With built-in functionality for molds and dies and advanced CNC machining options, it enables supply chain collaboration because it can share and exchange CAD files with all leading design systems such as CATIA and SolidWorks.
Development support from the ODA
“The high level of compatibility with .dwg in the mainstream CAD sector makes it the most convenient means of data exchange and project collaboration so it was essential for our products to support this file format,” Joh Li explains. “The outstanding quality of these two products comes directly from such ability, and it was clear that the ODA offered us a good solution for analyzing the .dwg file format. With the help of ODA information, it becomes easier to enable ZWCAD and ZW3D to open, edit and save files in .dwg format.”
ZWCAD continues to develop its products with ODA technology. "Now we are using Teigha® which gives us a better understanding of the internal logic of reading a .dwg file." Joh Li believes that more and more CAD/CAM users will benefit from the company's cost-effective-software. "Our innovative products satisfy user needs, ease their work load and help them win new business - all at a reasonable price. The ODA's commitment to open industry-standard formats for the exchange of CAD data has made this easier to achieve."
