Open Design Alliance (ODA) today announced that its next release of Teigha®, expected later this month, will consolidate support for the .dgn and .dwg file formats into a single SDK. With this release, Teigha for .dgn files and Teigha for .dwg files will no longer be available as individual separate products.

This is a logical step for the ODA. Teigha for .dwg files and Teigha for .dgn files are built on top of the same core technology and share a significant amount of functionality. This consolidation will make it easier for members to build applications, which use information from both file formats, and will streamline the message of the ODA. From now on Teigha is the only solution a member has to download. Teigha will continue to be available on the same set of platforms including Windows, Linux/UNIX, Mac OS X, iOS and Android.

“We want members to focus on our Teigha technology rather than the file format used to store the underlying data,” said Neil Peterson, CTO of ODA. “In addition to making it easier for members to develop multi-format applications, this change will simplify discussion of ODA products and will also streamline our release process by reducing the number of individual Teigha deliverables by 50%.”
